Anniversary of Trinbago being awarded Commonwealth Youth Games
Today marks four years since the Trinidad and Tobago Commonwealth Games Association was first awarded the right to host the Commonwealth Youth Games.
The Games were delayed from 2021 to 2023 because of the Covid pandemic, but there are now less than 50 days remaining until the opening ceremony in Port of Spain on 4 August.
Diane Henderson, President of the Organising Committee for Trinbago 2023, said: “As the countdown continues to the Games, today is an opportunity to look back and celebrate the endeavours of those who made this possible.
“While it has been a longer journey than we initially anticipated, there is real excitement on the twin islands at what is set to be a thrilling Commonwealth Youth Games.
“We hope that the whole nation joins together to put on a great show, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Trinbago 2023 takes place from 4-11 August. More than 1000 athletes from 71 Commonwealth nations and territories are taking part in seven sports at venues across Trinidad and Tobago.
